Is It Important to Be Excited About the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America?
Should Americans still be excited about the 250th birthday of the United States?
Yes. On July 4, 2026, America will celebrate 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. That milestone should cause us to pause, remember, give thanks, and think seriously about the future of this country.
America Is Still a Young Nation
When you look at the history of the world, the United States is still one of the newer countries on the face of the planet. Yet in a short 250 years, America has become a place many people around the world still desire to come to.
That did not happen by accident.
America was built on the idea that rights come from God, not government. We have not always lived that out perfectly, and there are parts of our history that are painful and wrong. Slavery, discrimination, and injustice were real failures. But the beauty of America is that our founding principles gave us a standard to return to and a reason to keep correcting what was wrong.
Freedom Has Always Come With a Price
America has shed blood for freedom, not only for its own people, but many times for people in other nations. Through wars like World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and other conflicts, men and women gave their lives because they believed America was worth defending.
No matter where someone stands politically, that sacrifice is no small thing.
Many people have called America the “police of the world.” But if the United States had not stood against evil in certain moments of history, the world could look very different today. Tyrants do not usually stop themselves. Many times, freedom survives because someone is willing to stand in the gap.
We Have Lost Our Way at Times
I believe America is the greatest country in the world, but that does not mean America is perfect. No nation is perfect because no man is perfect.
The Bible teaches us not to put our ultimate faith in man. Our faith belongs in God. But I do believe this country was built on principles that were inspired by biblical truth: liberty, personal responsibility, human dignity, and the belief that all people are equal in the eyes of God.
Over time, we have not always protected those principles the way we should have. We removed God from many parts of public life, and then when morality collapsed, families struggled, violence increased, and confusion grew, people asked, “Where is God?”
In my opinion, God never left us. We left God.
We Must Teach the Next Generation
One of the greatest dangers facing America is not only outside threats. It is whether we fail to teach our children what this country was built on.
If young people do not understand the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, sacrifice, freedom, faith, and personal responsibility, then they will not know what they are being asked to protect.
Ronald Reagan warned that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. That is worth thinking about. America can be weakened from the outside, but it can also be weakened from within when people forget what made it strong.
Remember the Cost and Know the Truth
As we approach America’s 250th birthday, we should not just celebrate with fireworks, flags, and cookouts. Those things are wonderful, but this anniversary should go deeper than that.
We should remember the men and women who served. We should remember the families who never got their loved ones back. We should remember the people who fought to correct wrongs inside our own country. And we should remember that freedom requires responsibility.
Educate yourself on the truth. Do not simply believe what is popular, loud, or convenient. Know what you stand for. Know why you believe it. And when someone asks you about this country, have the knowledge and courage to answer.
Final Takeaway
Yes, I believe we should be excited about the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.
Not because America is perfect, but because America is worth remembering, worth improving, and worth protecting. We should thank God for the freedoms we still have, honor those who sacrificed for them, and do our part to pass them on to our children.
Happy 250th birthday, America.
The best country in the world.
